She's sitting by the back door
Alone on either side
Near a painting of some flowers
And the wall it tries to hide
I start to head on home
Until home becomes her face
And I have to stay or regret
The steps I can't retrace

I don't know if she'll answer
But I'm talking just in case

Would you mind if I took this seat awhile?
Would you mind if I tried to make you smile?
Well, she says, "yes. Goodbye,"
But then gives away her lie by laughing

She's standing by the back door
Flowers in her hand
Reflecting off the window
Reflecting on the land
When something's on your mind
There's no better place to be
More space here than anything
Else you may chance to see

And I guess it's what she wanted
Always been enough for me

Would you mind me asking you for a chance?
Would you mind sharing in my circumstance?
Says she can't imagine why
But then gives away her lie by laughing

She's walking out the back door
In a new dress, I believe
Flowers in her hair
Lovely as she starts to leave
Says she means to head out west
Where the sun and water meet
And mountains fold and crumble
Like Sunday morning sheets

Well, her mind is set on moving
She don't try to be discreet

Would you mind giving me another day?
Would you mind if I tried to make you stay?
She says, "it's worth a try,"
But then gives away her lie by laughing
